Goals

The Ministry of Education and Culture of Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia (MECA), in the framework of its competence - education, culture, sport and youth affairs, strengthens and promotes a joint effort of the Government of Georgia and the Government of Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia to restore the Georgian territorial integrity and ensures support to the internally displaced persons from Abkhazia through carrying out a wide-range peace building policy.

Through different educational, cultural, sport and youth initiatives, the Ministry of Education and Culture of Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia contributes to the effective implementation of the National Strategy toward Internally Displaced Persons in Georgia.                                                                      

Education

In the field of education, the Ministry of Education and Culture of Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia fosters successful introduction of educational reform in Georgia and promotes implementation of national holistic policy at general educational institutions of Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia.

“The Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia aims at establishing modern and innovative educational and scientific environment in close cooperation with civil society. The Ministry advocates freedom of choice, fair competition, equal opportunities, civil integrity, and respect for cultural identity. The Ministry promotes acquisition and development of knowledge and skills necessary for social success and self-realization” (www.mes.gov.ge/mission).

In July, 2009, the Ministry of Education and Culture of Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia developed peace education priorities that further determine Ministry’s major directions and activities with a consideration of the educational needs of IDPs from Abkhazia.
